‘Breaking news’ is a term which can mean different things. For instance, it can refer to a special report or a report which is to be made at a particular moment. It can also refer to something which is happening right now or a fact that is already known. Some people even use the word ‘breaking’ to describe a story that has already been reported.
‘KHQ Right Now’ covers breaking news whenever and wherever it happens
Despite a long and storied history, Dan Kleckner has no plans to continue his career as anchor of KHQ-TV’s evening news. The seasoned veteran, who has been on the clock since the mid-1980s, will make his last appearance on Thursday, at 6 p.m. As for KHQ, Inc., which owns the station, has not made a formal announcement regarding nighttime news coverage. However, KHQ’s execs said the station has been considering new ways to reposition itself in the market, and that they have not yet decided which direction to take.
Dan Kleckner, who starred in the aforementioned “KHQ Right Now” for almost 20 years, was the first of a number of anchors to leave the station. He was 27 when he took the helm at the time and came to Spokane with his nine-month-old son, Daniel.
Critics of breaking news
Despite the growing popularity of criticism of legacy news media, scholars have not yet studied the perceptions of journalists about the legitimacy of these criticisms. This could provide important insights into the viability of media criticism as a tool for journalist accountability. A study of journalists’ perceptions of media critique might also serve as a foundation for further quantitative research.
In this study, journalists were asked to explain their perspective of social media criticism. Twenty-one journalists responded. They explained some of the issues raised by critics as a challenge to institutional structures and processes. Some also saw offensive criticisms as useful for gauging the feelings of the public and for predicting the future reactions to a story. Others suggested that some of these criticisms had no legitimate purpose. In some cases, however, journalists did admit that the criticisms were inaccuracies.
